關於住在臺南縣平埔族之體質研究的發表僅有左列數種而已。
　　(1)沈乃霖：「臺南縣頭社平埔族之體質人類學的研究」(國立臺灣大學解剖學究室論文集，第五冊，民國三十八年三月)就臺南縣大內鄉頭社平埔族(男一六○名，女一三三名)做生體觀察，生體計測以及其他調查而與本省內及省外之近接諸種族廣泛地比較之。

　　(4)蘇振輝：「臺南縣左鎮平埔族之人類學的研究」( 國立臺灣大學解剖學研究室論文集第九冊，民國三九年三 月)就左鎮平埔族 (男二○○名，女一四○名)做生體觀測，生體計測，而與福建籍臺灣省人，廣東籍臺灣省人， Tayal 族等比較之。

　　(7)蘇振輝，林塊三：「關於臺南縣左鎮平埔族之手掌理紋」(國立臺灣大學解剖學研究室論文集第九冊，民國三九年三月)記載左鎮平埔族(男二四六名，女一四三名)之手掌理紋調查成績。
　　(8)蔡錫圭、沈乃霖：「臺南縣六重溪平埔族之血型」(臺灣醫學會雜誌第五三卷第二號，民國四三年二月)敘述臺南縣白河鎮六重溪平埔族 (男三四名，女一七四名 )之血型調查成績，並且與近接諸種族相較之。
　　住在臺南縣下的平埔族除了頭社、左鎮、六重溪以外雖然還有幾多部族但上述諸業績以外並無其調查成績，上述諸業績只是其中的一部分而已，將來還須要做許多調查研究，比如說，兒童的發育問題，血液學的知見，植物神經的知見等等尚剩有許多問題。一方面關於佔臺南縣住民最多數的福建籍臺灣省人之體質亦未有系統的研究，實令人感到遺憾。筆者雖然企圖關於平埔族兒童的發育但惜乎 猶未能着手。
筆者把關於頭社平埔族之體質的研究，簡單記述於后。

B驅幹部計測(Absolute measurements of body)
　　驅幹部計測的結果如第二表
　　第二表中前軀幹長I為第(4)胸骨上綠高減第(6)恥骨聲合上綠高。前軀幹長Ⅱ為第(4)胸骨上綠高減第(13)右側腹側腸骨棘高而算出者。
　　胸圍：男性則在乳房位，女性在乳房稍上位處做第一計測(上)，再於乳房下做第二計測(下)。
　　身高：平均值若以 Martin 氏分類法則男女皆屬於「中等」。
　　又各項之計測平均值則第(4)腹側腸骨棘間寬以外顯然地男性比女性大。

　　由上述計測絕對值計算比較重要的身體各部的比例和指數的成績如左：(當然就個人計算而非由平均值計算)。
頭部指數 (Relative measurements of head)(第四表)
　　依第四表，頭社平埔族的頭長寬指數，男性為「中頭型」(Mesokephal」之中位。女性為「中頭型」(Mesokephal)之上位。頭長高指數，男性女性皆為高頭型 (Hypsilkephal)。頭寬高指數男女兩性皆為中高型 (Metriokephal)。形態學的顏面指數，男性為「短型」顏面 (Euryprosop) ，女性為「過短型」顏面 (Hypereuryprosop)。鼻指數，男女 兩性皆為中鼻型 (Messorhin)。
對身長之指數 (Percentages per the stature) (第五表)
　　依第五表 頭社平埔族的比胸圍，男性 51.69±0.21 屬於 Brugsch 氏之所謂 normal brustig (normal chest)。本型之出現率 66.28±3. 85%，男女性間之性差極微小。

總括
　　本種族之體質的特徵如各表所表示，由其均數之數值上觀之如次：
男性之(1)體高(165.06±0.48(Cm))，按 Martin 氏之分類係屬於「中等大」，(2)頭部之諸計量以長谷部氏分類法分類之。頭最大長 (185.31±0.49(mm))，屬於「短型」(Short type)。頭最大寬 (146.45+0.43(mm))屬於「中型」(middle type)。觀骨弓寬(140.99±0.42(mm))，屬於「廣型」(Wide type)。形態學的顏面高( 116.92±0.45(mm))，屬於「低型」(Low type)。鼻高(50.07±0.37(mm))，屬於「低型」(Low type)。鼻寬(39. 09±0.20(mm)，屬於「狹」及「中等」型之中間。於女性僅鼻寬異於男性：屬於「狹型」其他與男性相同。
由指數數值觀之，男女兩性之特徵完全一致即兩性均為中頭型(mesokephal)，高頭型(Hypsikephal)，中高型(Metriokephal)，短型顏面高(Euryprosop)中鼻型 (Messorrhin)
血型：(♂+♀)(%)O型30.73±2.28, A型35.37±2.37 B型24.39±2.12, AB型9.51±1.45° H. Hirschfeld 氏生物化學的民族指數為1.305。 (完)
